Kansas City Equipment Company was started in the early 1950’s by two Elliott Turbine salesmen. It was incorporated in December 1959. In the early 1960’s a Fluor cooling tower engineer and an American Standard salesman bought the company. In 1980 Larry Smith became a one-third owner with the balance of the ownership changing in 1985 when Mike Koontz became an equal owner. In 2006 Larry Smith took full ownership of the company.

Kansas City Equipment has traditionally provided representation for utility oriented products - typically large capital equipment and the related parts and service. Kansas City Equipment covers a four-state area, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. Our customers include:

• Consulting Engineers (Black & Veatch, Burns & McDonnell, Kiewit Power, URS, Bibb Engineers and Sega)
• Utilities (Kansas City Power & Light, Ameren/UE, Associated Electric, KPL Gas Service, Westar Energy and numerous municipal utilities)
• Industrial Users (refineries, cement plants, and other process industries)
